I did a thing!!! My poor wee brain has been wracking around in
circles the last few weeks, learning about water filtration,
electricity-free refrigeration, etc... Particularily interested in a traditional Zeer pot that is used to keep fruits and vegetables cool. Not sure if it would work in our climate, I wanted to set up a wee
prototype of what I have in mind. And... Ta Daaa! Here it is! It works!!
Still a works in progress, but you can see where I am going with this!
And if you try this at home, keep in mind that you can not store fresh meat or dairy products this way safely for any length of time.

Kombucha.
Does anyone else make their own? I swear by it, and it is something I
will have to find a way to continue to brew it while in the van. I
normally do a continuous brew with a second ferment in 2L pop bottles...
So there is never a worry about exploding glass, etc... And so much
easier than having to wash and sterilize all those glass bottles.
I usually do about a batch a week... which is four 2L bottles worth... I may cut this in half, using a smaller jar to brew it, and make more batches, rather than storing that many bottles each week. Or just pour off half and add more tea to keep the flow of Kombucha going, a continuous brew.
I would love to hear if anyone else ferments or makes Kombucha, kefir, etc... And how that translates to vanlife 😊
